At iDrive Mid Ulster, we believe everyone deserves the chance to learn to drive — safely, confidently, and at their own pace. That includes learners with disabilities, additional needs, or learning differences like anxiety, autism, ADHD or dyslexia.
Here’s how we make learning to drive more inclusive for everyone:
1. Lessons at your pace
We take the time to understand how you learn best. Whether that means breaking things down more gradually, repeating key concepts, or focusing on confidence-building first — we adjust our teaching style to suit you.
2. Open, honest communication
We’ll have a chat before lessons begin, either with the learner or a parent/guardian if needed. This gives us the chance to understand any concerns, triggers, or preferred learning approaches.
3. No judgement, ever
Everyone learns differently — and that’s okay. You’ll never be rushed or made to feel like you’re “falling behind.” In fact, many of our learners with additional needs go on to become some of the safest and most aware drivers on the road.
4. Experience with a range of learning profiles
From learners with mild physical disabilities to those with processing difficulties, we’ve worked with a wide range of students. Patience, empathy, and respect come as standard.
5. Test-day support
We can help guide you through the process of applying for special accommodations if needed (like an extended test time or help with the theory). We’re with you every step of the way.
Learning to drive should be empowering — not stressful.
Whether you're the learner or the parent, get in touch with us to chat about how we can tailor your lessons to suit your needs.
We're always looking to improve and expand our services to meet the needs of our learners. As part of this, we are considering offering automatic driving lessons alongside our existing services.
Would you be interested in learning to drive with an automatic vehicle? Automatic cars can offer an easier driving experience, particularly for those who may prefer simpler handling or wish to avoid learning gear shifting and clutch control.
Please let us know if this is something you would be interested in. Your feedback will help shape the future of our driving school offerings!
